Feeling unseen in the beauty industry as a women of color? Are you using beauty products intended to change your appearance rather than accentuate natural beauty? Most likely they were based on a model that didn’t look like you.

That all changes today as Melissa Polanco, Founder of Ring of Color beauty brand, shares her passion for celebrating diversity with products that bring out the best of you.

Melissa shares her life journey of coming to the U.S., at 18, from the Dominican Republic and struggling to feel part of a culture that didn’t look like her. Finding comfort and camaraderie in ESL classes, Melissa thrived in college earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology and a Masters in College Counseling, out of love of helping others.

It’s this intelligent curiosity and profound empathy that ultimately fired up her entrepreneurial spirit to start a Latina owned beauty brand that focused on people of color, who were overlooked in the industry. Melissa aimed to soften the struggle for anyone feeling left out and encourage self love by dedicating products that accentuate natural beauty.

Her current lip products come in all shades and types to meet you on any given day. Melissa encourages self care and appreciation to emphasize that you are enough, with no need to conceal or cover up your emotions.

She shared her story on Univision’s ‘Despierta America’ last September, helping her realize that not only is she enough, she is going places. But, not without her friends and customers that she values for getting her to this point in her life.

With makeup playing such an intimate role in expressing self, we need more owners like Melissa Polanco, who sell more than beauty products; she is gifting us self confidence to step out in the world and feel seen.
